When it comes to sanitizing and cleaning our antler chews, we take this very seriously. Since antlers are naturally shed in the wild, then picked by locals or antler collectors, they could potentially be contaminated with bacteria or virus such as Salmonella, Norovirus (Norwalk Virus), Campylobacter, E. coli, Listeria and Clostridium perfringens.
To minimize the contamination risk, we sanitize EACH of our antler chew using Ozone (O3) sanitation method and immediately seal it after sanitization. From wild or farm to your dog, we know the risk of antler chew being exposure to bacteria, we can’t afford to take the chance.
Ozone (O3) sanitization is an FDA approved (FDA Federal Register Vol. 66 No.123) sanitization method, adopted by food processing and pharmaceutical industries. Major cities such as Los Angeles, San Diego, Dallas, and Las Vegas currently use ozone to purify their water supply. See our sanitization report.
We choose ozone because of its ability to disinfect our antlers without adding other chemicals. This way, we can ensure our antlers are sanitized and no bleaching chemical is ever used.
Ozone (O3) is a form of oxygen that has one more oxygen atom than the atmospheric oxygen (O2) we breathe. An ozone disinfection system produces ozone-enriched water to sanitize a surface through ozone oxidation. The unstable third oxygen atom can combine with organic and inorganic molecules to destroy bacteria such as Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli or any number of other dangerous microorganisms through oxidation. It can kill bacteria faster and 50 times more effective than traditionally used disinfectants, such as chlorine.
To prevent any contamination due to transportation or display, our antlers chews are sealed immediately after cleaning. Our "Ozone (O3) Sanitized” QC code in our label represents our commitment to sanitizing our products for maximum safety!
